Cygnet Texkimp Robotic Filament Winder Dry Winding

This video shows the winder built by Cygnet Texkimp and used at their facility, winding a pressure vessel. The Cadfil control strategy gives a simple delivery path for the fibres to allow good band control and avoid filament damage. This system uses a standard ABB robot configured with two external axes, one being the Mandrel rotator and the other being a rail track on which the robot is mounted. The linear track is fulling integrated into the control and allows much longer parts than the Robot arm reach to be wound. The Cadfil post-processor is configured to give direct output for the robot in the ABB RAPID language.

This system, also build by Cygnet Texkimp, is used by Solvay (Heanor,UK) in their technology/development centre. This system also uses a standard ABB robot configured with two external axes, one being the Mandrel rotator and the other being a rail track on which the robot is mounted. The linear track is fulling integrated into the control and allows much longer parts than the Robot arm reach to be wound. The Cadfil post-processor is configured to give direct output for the robot in the ABB RAPID language. In this case the machine is winding a large pipe to provide laminated sheet material at various angles for use in other processes.
